Bragging about not knowing

Date: 2019-06-29 — |

Unfortunately, the press, like politics and entertainment are always more or less faithful projection of the population they serve, or exploit, or with with whom they live in symbiosis. Over the centuries, the wisdom of peoples has captured this cultural infusion, this ideal and material transfer into numerous proverbs:

  • "Qualis pater, talis filius"
  • "Der Apffel fellt nicht weit vom Baum"
  • "Toujours le vin sent son terroir"

Unfortunately, the common cultural foundations of Europe are overlaid by the prevalence of romantic, humanistic culture over rational technical and scientific culture, so much so that one is not ashamed to boast in public that they understand nothing, for example, of mathematics, a field of knowledge that is one of the cornerstones not only of modern science, but also of world economics.

What is more serious is that if an idiot boasts of being ignorant, one would expect such boasting to be publicly condemned by public opinion, but this does not happen.

Are we to conclude that large portions of the masses are like the rats of Hamelin?

Viele vertrauen blind hochkomplexen Algorithmen. Über ein deutsches Phänomen.
